Description

CRI-19 is a colour-rendering improvement (CRI) filter that warms and smooths spiky LED/HMI spectra by trimming deep blue and yellow-green while preserving blue-cyan and long-red. Transmission rises from ~10% at ~380 nm to ~35–38% near ~405 nm, dips to ~16–18% around ~430–435 nm, then climbs to ~93–95% across ~465–520 nm. It falls to ~42–46% near ~560–580 nm, recovers to ~93–95% from ~625–700 nm, and eases down toward ~48–52% by ~780 nm.

Key advantages

  • Raise CRI/TLCI and R9 — moderates the ~430 nm spike and the ~540–590 nm band while keeping strong long-red for natural skin, wood, food, and fabrics.

  • Dual-pass profile — high throughput in blue-cyan (~465–520 nm) and long-red (~625–700 nm) with controlled attenuation at ~430 nm and ~560–580 nm.

  • Colour-temperature tuning — shifts overly cool sources toward neutral/warm without magenta/green casts.

  • Predictable shaping — smooth slopes and broad features avoid banding and preserve colour balance.

  • Built for production — durable dielectric stack for sets, stages, and architectural fixtures; optional rear-surface AR and slight wedge to suppress ghosts.

  • Custom formats — Borofloat®, Eagle XG, or D263 T (0.21–3.8 mm) for high-temp duty to ~450 °C; soda-lime for ≤150 °C. Sizes 5–450 mm.

Typical applications

  • Cinema/TV lighting — lift TLCI/CRI and skin-tone accuracy with less in-camera correction.

  • Photography & events — warmer, more flattering faces and textiles under LED or HMI.

  • Retail, museum & hospitality — reduce green cast and reveal natural reds in merchandise and art.

  • Architectural & display — refine off-the-shelf luminaires for premium colour.

  • Machine vision — balance channels where red features matter and blue/green glare is problematic.

FAQ

CRI-19 FAQ

What is CRI-19 and what is it used for?

CRI-19 is a Green-Preserving Red Boost with Minimal UV. CRI-19 delivers a nuanced profile emphasizing red enhancement while preserving green accuracy. Peak transmission of 95.8 % at 644 nm combines with a severe minimum of 10.1 % at 383 nm, establishing strong UV cutoff. Common uses include Museum Artifact & Textile Preservation, High-End Jewelry & Gemstone Photography, Broadcast & Film Production Talent Lighting, and Fine Art Conservation & Restoration.

What are the key optical specs of CRI-19?

Key published specs for CRI-19 include Target source type: Phosphor-converted white LED / fluorescent; CRI Ra improvement: 70 → 95+ (typical); R9 (deep red) improvement: 0–20 → 90+ (typical); Colour temperature shift: Moderate shift (depends on source); white-balance adjustment may be needed; Light output reduction: ~31.5 %.

What applications is CRI-19 best suited for?

CRI-19 is commonly used for Museum Artifact & Textile Preservation, High-End Jewelry & Gemstone Photography, Broadcast & Film Production Talent Lighting, and Fine Art Conservation & Restoration. Museum Artifact & Textile Preservation - Lighting with extreme UV suppression (19 %) prevents photochemical degradation while achieving CRI > 95; artifacts maintain color fidelity across decades of exhibition.

Can CRI-19 be customized for size, substrate, or coating requirements?

KUPO lists the construction for CRI-19 as Ion-assisted hard-oxide; 5 – 450 mm shapes, 0.21 – 3.8 mm thick. Published custom options include Source-specific tuning, combined CRI + colour temperature correction, rapid prototypes. Comprehensive Custom Format Availability - Round 5-450 mm, square, and free-form optical blanks on Borofloat, soda-lime, Schott D263 T, Corning Eagle XG with 0.21-3.8 mm thickness for any housing integration.

What should I know about angle of incidence and durability for CRI-19?

The hard-oxide coating is built for repeated handling, heat, and cleaning.
