Description

CRI-30 is a colour-rendering improvement (CRI) filter that warms and smooths spiky LED/HMI spectra by suppressing deep blue and yellow-green while preserving cyan and long-red. Transmission sits high in the near-UV/blue (~85–90% around 390–410 nm), drops into a deep blue notch near ~445–455 nm (~12–18% T), surges to a blue-cyan window of ~90–93% around ~490–510 nm, then falls across ~520–590 nm to a minimum of ~18–25% T near ~555–570 nm. It recovers hard through the red, delivering ~90–96% T across ~660–730 nm before tapering to ~65–70% by ~780 nm.

Key advantages

  • Raise CRI/TLCI and R9 — trims the ~450 nm spike and the ~520–590 nm region while keeping strong long-red for natural skin, food, wood and fabrics.

  • Dual-pass profile — high throughput in blue-cyan (~490–510 nm) and long-red (~660–730 nm) with controlled attenuation at ~450 nm and ~560 nm.

  • Colour-temperature tuning — shifts overly cool sources toward neutral/warm without magenta/green casts.

  • Predictable shaping — smooth slopes and broad features avoid banding and protect colour balance.

  • Built for production — durable dielectric stack for sets, stages and architectural fixtures; optional rear-surface AR and slight wedge to suppress ghosts.

  • Custom formats — Borofloat®, Eagle XG or D263 T (0.21–3.8 mm) for high-temp duty to ~450 °C; soda-lime for ≤150 °C. Sizes 5–450 mm.

Typical applications

  • Cinema/TV lighting — lift TLCI/CRI and skin-tone accuracy with less in-camera correction.

  • Photography & events — warmer, more flattering faces and textiles under LED or HMI.

  • Retail, museum & hospitality — reduce green cast and reveal natural reds in merchandise and art.

  • Architectural & display — refine off-the-shelf luminaires for premium colour.

  • Machine vision — balance channels where red features matter and blue/green glare is problematic.

FAQ

CRI-30 FAQ

What is CRI-30 and what is it used for?

CRI-30 is a Robust Balance of Efficiency and CRI Improvement. CRI-30 delivers practical CRI correction with strong light efficiency. Peak transmission of 96.5 % at 679 nm establishes excellent overall flux preservation. Common uses include Cost-Conscious Broadcast Lighting, Mid-Tier Hospitality Ambiance, Retail Merchandise Display Optimization, and Commercial Office Warm-Neutral Lighting.

What are the key optical specs of CRI-30?

Key published specs for CRI-30 include Target source type: Phosphor-converted white LED / fluorescent; CRI Ra improvement: 75 → 92+ (typical); R9 (deep red) improvement: 10–30 → 80+ (typical); Colour temperature shift: Moderate shift (~100–300 K typical); Light output reduction: ~42.0 %.

What applications is CRI-30 best suited for?

CRI-30 is commonly used for Cost-Conscious Broadcast Lighting, Mid-Tier Hospitality Ambiance, Retail Merchandise Display Optimization, and Commercial Office Warm-Neutral Lighting. Cost-Conscious Broadcast Lighting - Regional broadcast stations and production companies using CRI-30 achieve practical CRI > 92 with reasonable flux loss; budget-conscious operations maintain quality while controlling costs.

Can CRI-30 be customized for size, substrate, or coating requirements?

KUPO lists the construction for CRI-30 as Ion-assisted hard-oxide; 5 – 450 mm shapes, 0.21 – 3.8 mm thick. Published custom options include Source-specific tuning, combined CRI + colour temperature correction, rapid prototypes. Universal Optical Integration Capability - Round 5-450 mm, square, and free-form optical blanks on Borofloat, soda-lime, D263 T, Eagle XG; 0.21-3.8 mm thickness for flexible fixture integration.
