Description

CRI-32 is a colour-rendering improvement (CRI) filter that warms and smooths spiky LED/HMI spectra by trimming blue and yellow-green while preserving strong reds. Transmission is low in the deep blue (~5–12% from 380–420 nm), rises to ~40–45% near 455–465 nm, dips through blue-green to ~30–35% around 500–520 nm, then makes a steep red lift between ~590–630 nm to ~75–80%, continuing up to ~88–92% by ~760–780 nm.

Key advantages

  • Raise CRI/TLCI and R9 — moderates blue (~380–500 nm) and yellow-green (~500–560 nm) while emphasising long-red for truer skin, food, wood, and fabrics.

  • Warm CCT, smoother SPD — shifts overly cool sources toward neutral/warm and evens out spectral gaps.

  • High red throughput — ≈80–92% T above ~620 nm preserves deep-red fidelity and saturation.

  • Broad, predictable shaping — gentle blue/green control avoids harsh magenta/green casts or banding.

  • Built for production — durable dielectric stack for sets, stages, and architectural fixtures; optional rear-surface AR and slight wedge to suppress ghosts.

  • Custom formats — Borofloat®, Eagle XG, or D263 T (0.21–3.8 mm) for high-temp duty to ~450 °C; soda-lime for ≤150 °C. Sizes 5–450 mm.

Typical applications

  • Cinema/TV lighting — lift TLCI/CRI and skin-tone accuracy without heavy in-camera correction.

  • Photography & events — warmer, more flattering faces and textiles under LED or HMI.

  • Retail, museum & hospitality — reduce green cast and reveal natural reds in merchandise and art.

  • Architectural & display — refine off-the-shelf luminaires for premium colour.

  • Machine vision — tame blue/green glare and balance channels when red features matter.

FAQ

CRI-32 FAQ

What is CRI-32 and what is it used for?

CRI-32 is a Extreme UV Elimination with Warm-Tone Pass. CRI-32 represents a unique extreme-UV-suppression strategy. Peak transmission of 91.9 % at 774 nm establishes NIR dominance (88.8 %). Common uses include Museum & Archive Conservation Lighting, Fine-Art Photography & Restoration, Sensitive Biological & Medical Imaging, and Textile & Fabric Display Preservation.

What are the key optical specs of CRI-32?

Key published specs for CRI-32 include Target source type: Phosphor-converted white LED / fluorescent; CRI Ra improvement: 70 → 95+ (typical); R9 (deep red) improvement: 0–20 → 90+ (typical); Colour temperature shift: Moderate shift (~100–300 K typical); Light output reduction: ~46.3 %.

What applications is CRI-32 best suited for?

CRI-32 is commonly used for Museum & Archive Conservation Lighting, Fine-Art Photography & Restoration, Sensitive Biological & Medical Imaging, and Textile & Fabric Display Preservation. Museum & Archive Conservation Lighting - Fine-art and artifact preservation using CRI-32 eliminates UV photochemical damage almost completely; archival lifespans extend dramatically with zero UV exposure.

Can CRI-32 be customized for size, substrate, or coating requirements?

KUPO lists the construction for CRI-32 as Ion-assisted hard-oxide; 5 – 450 mm shapes, 0.21 – 3.8 mm thick. Published custom options include Source-specific tuning, combined CRI + colour temperature correction, rapid prototypes. Specialized Custom Optical Formats - Round 5-450 mm, square, and free-form optical blanks on Borofloat, soda-lime, D263 T, Eagle XG; 0.21-3.8 mm thickness for UV-sensitive applications.

What should I know about angle of incidence and durability for CRI-32?

The hard-oxide coating is built for repeated handling, heat, and cleaning.
